What is Aspen?

Follett Aspen Student Information System (SIS) is a student information system that manages data and processes for schools and districts. Aspen SIS helps districts keep administrative tasks simple and out of the way so educators can focus on success. Aspen SIS is accessible to parents and students to help them track and manage their academic journey.

Can Aspen track attendance?

Yes, Follett Aspen^®Student Information System can track attendance and provides attendance visibility to district personnel, guardians, and students.

Can Aspen track student health data for screenings?

Does Aspen offer integrated online student registration system?

Yes, Aspen online registration is an optional feature you can add. It makes school registration and re-enrollment easier for parents, saves time for staff, lowers administrative costs, and improves the quality, completeness, and timeliness of student data. Parents can register students online anytime and anywhere, eliminating the need for inconvenient trips to the district office. And since Aspen online registration is part of a seamless platform, real-time enrollment records generate automatically when a student is accepted, so there’s no need to integrate or sync systems or manually move data. We recently integrated online registration into our new mobile platform, making online registration mobile-friendly.

Is the Aspen display customizable? Can I modify the end users’ experience based on their role?

How can a SIS make my school more efficient?

Can a SIS support social-emotional learning within a district?

Yes, Aspen supports the entire student. We offer a social-emotional support module that lets teachers, parents, administrators, and students create a social-emotional referral record. School counselors or other health professionals can use those records in conjunction with academic data to monitor students’ progress as they move forward.

Can Aspen help me increase student success rates and identify at-risk students?

Yes. Aspen can help you track student progress through indicators or alerts. Aspen dashboarding and analytics offers a view by individual student, not just by classroom or school. You can look at multiple data points around individual students and provide graphical indicators that the student might be approaching chronic absenteeism or having an issue with discipline based on language. You can also set alert trackers for things like perfect attendance.

Can I develop customized plans for services above and beyond the curriculum?

Yes, Aspen has a flexible plan framework that lets administrators build custom plans to track any varied data set or a combination of data sets in a single plan. You can also track interventions and student progress, build health plans, and expose portions to teachers through integrated grade books.

How should a SIS handle security? What type of permission should I be able to control within my SIS?

Aspen offers total control over data visibility, helping you maintain the safety and security of your data. Access is based on roles, which can be very specific and determine access to tables, rows, and columns. You can also stack roles to provide users with both counselor and teaching credentials but sequester that data based on the view the user is in.

Does Aspen support Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Yes. We work with Google, Microsoft Azure, and others. Aspen can also be provisioned as the identity provider.

Does Aspen support multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication is a feature that will be delivered with its next release this spring. Aspen currently supports 2-step authentication, requiring a password and a PIN.

What support resources does Aspen offer?

Between outstanding customer service and the learning sessions we provide, Aspen support is top-notch. We offer weekly webinars and free biweeklyAspen Answerscalls where product management and senior support staff answer questions and help develop custom solutions. You have access to several customer-run community forums as well.

Is Aspen capable of supporting continuing or adult education?

Yes. This is accessible to everyone with Aspen 6.7. or higher.

Does Aspen include a standards-based grade book? Can Aspen calculate standards-based grading?

Yes. Aspen can calculate a grade based on an average standard-based grade or using Marzano’s Power Law.

Will Aspen integrate with the products and systems my district currently uses?

Is Aspen compatible with my Google Classroom?

Absolutely! Other districts are already using Google Classroom in an integrated way. Aspen is also compatible with Canvas (just like Follett Destiny^®suite integrates!) and more.

Does Aspen support the IMS Global One roster specification?

Yes.

How does the Aspen team onboard a new district?

Change management is something the Aspen team does very well! Aspen implementation and training are crucial to the success of the software, and our team is committed to your school’s success and ease of use. Every implementation is a unique journey that includes a dedicated configuration person, a relationship person, and a conversion person. All three team members will work with your school for months (or longer) to ensure a smooth transition.

What is an Aspen login ID?

A Follett Aspen Student Information System (SIS) login ID is provided by the district your student attends, and follows the format specified by them. It is most often an email address.

How do I login to my Aspen account?

To login to your Follett Aspen Student Information System (SIS) account, go to your district’s URL for Aspen SIS through our School District Login Finder, and enter in the login ID and password provided to you by your district, or your latest password if recently changed.

How do I reset my Aspen login ID?

Resetting your password is controlled by your district. In many cases, selecting “I forgot my password” will be available for you to enter your login ID and email address (which can sometimes be the same value). In remaining cases, please contact your school district’s help desk for assistance, as login access will be controlled by your district and never by Follett Software.

What is the Aspen Parent Portal?

The Follett Aspen Student Information System (SIS) parent portal view is a mobile-accessible version of Aspen SIS. The parent portal provides access to all your student’s academic details, such as attendance, grades, and more. Simply go to your school district’s Aspen SIS URL on your mobile device, and Aspen SIS will present the parent portal once successfully logged in. The parent portal must be enabled by your district to access it.
